Decision on controversial homeless hostel in Shaw delayed Reporter: Charlotte Green, Local Democracy Reporter Date published: 27 April 2021 The former Weavers Answer in Shaw A decision on controverisal plans to turn a pub into a homeless hostel has been delayed after councillors were told neighbours were ‘frightened’. A majority of the members of Oldham’s planning committee voted to defer a decision on the proposals to convert the former Weavers Answer public house in Shaw. Councillors raised concerns about the access point being located very close to a bus stop, and also the layout and management of the facility on Milnrow Road.

Council chiefs outlined how its budget will react to the challenges that lay ahead A majority of Oldham councillors have voted for a 2.99pc council tax increase and millions of pounds of cuts that will see residents’ bills rise by at least £30 from April.  The rise includes a 2pc hike in the adult social care precept and 0.99pc for council tax – but is lower than the maximum 4.99pc the government allowed local authorities to increase bills for 2021/22. The annual bill for next year for Band A will be £1,148.62, and £1,722.94 for Band D, before mayoral or parish precepts are added on top.
