The Columbus City Council Residential Districting Commission has cancelled a North Side Regional Meeting scheduled for tonight so as not to conflict with a public forum for the four finalists  to become Columbus chief of police. “As our community continues to reimagine public safety and discuss the needs of our neighbors, it is important that we don’t make people choose between two important meetings. Postponing this week’s CRDC meeting just makes sense,” Malik Moore, chair of the Council Residential Districting Commission, said in a written statement. The city of Columbus is seeking applications from residents to fill a five-member commission that will draw districts for future council members, though voters citywide still will get to vote for each member. Under the requirements of a city charter amendment passed overwhelmingly by voters in 2018, Columbus residents can apply to be considered for appointment to the Council Residential Districting Commission. The city will take applications beginning Tuesday and until Jan. 21 from registered voters, said Councilman Emmanuel Remy.
