Harrisonburg City Council adopted a resolution last night that amends the Solid Waste Management and Collection Fees.
The amendment keeps the 24-dollar a month residential collection fee that was established last year, but now adds an additional 10 dollars per month if they need an extra toter container.
Even though Councilman Chris Jones voted for the resolution, he hopes that something can be done for the low-income population.
Each city resident will receive a free 96-gallon container. However, if a second container is needed, then that is when the extra 10 dollars will be charged per month for the service of taking the trash to the landfill and paying the tipping fee every week.
