Lakewood mayor urges council to approve paid parental leave benefits

LAKEWOOD, Ohio Exactly two years after first introducing an ordinance to provide paid parental leave benefits to the city’s full-time employees as a councilwoman, Mayor Meghan George is hoping City Council passes the legislation, which was reintroduced on Tuesday (Jan. 19).
“While initially discussed at the time, I really couldn’t get a lot of traction from the prior administration or council,” said George, who, before becoming mayor, worked in the healthcare industry as a benefits consultant.
“I knew once I became mayor I wanted to reintroduce this benefit, because it’s been a long passion of mine.”
