Iowa City Council might suspend Truth and Reconciliation Commission

The Iowa City Council will consider indefinitely suspending the Ad Hoc Truth and Reconciliation Commission next Tuesday. According to a resolution in the agenda packet for Tuesday s meeting, City Council believes it is in the best interests of the City . to temporarily suspend the operation of the TRC pending further discussion and action by the City Council. A draft of the resolution, penned by Councilmember Laura Bergus, would suspend the commission until its four vacancies have been filled. It also directs city staff to provide recommendations to City Council for training to assist the group in creating and maintaining safe spaces for dialogue, building trust and committing to consistent meeting procedures.
