Tangipahoa Parish Council members want more time to consider regulations for solar farms.
The current moratorium on consideration of and/ or approval of all solar panel farms or commercial solar power plants in the parish is set to expire June 9. Extending the ban for another 90 days is on the agenda for the council meeting Monday in Amite.
âWe are trying to move forward as quickly as possible, while taking the time necessary to make sure we come up with the best ordinance for the industry, the landowners and the parish,â said Brigette Hyde, District 9 councilwoman and council president.
âWe have gotten a lot accomplished in the last few weeks and have a really good draft of the ordinance,â she said. âWe have recommendations from the Public Service Commission, lawmakers and even representatives from the solar industry that we extend the moratorium and not rush through an ordinance that may not serve everyoneâs best interest.â
