In 2017, with assistance from the Mid-Minnesota Development Commission, Kandiyohi County created its first Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. Now, five years later, Kandiyohi County Public Works wants to update the plan. On Tuesday, the Kandiyohi County Board gave its approval for the update, allowing Public Works to again work with the Mid-Minnesota Development Commission.
The Kandiyohi County property tax levy for 2023 was preliminarily certified to rise 2.9% over the 2022 levy. However, increased property values and new development will reduce the impact of that increase on individual tax bills.
Trisha Appeldorn, Kandiyohi County veterans service officer, was reappointed by the Kandiyohi County Board for her fourth term. Officially joining her in serving the county's veterans is Anabeth Wall, who was appointed the county's assistant veterans service officer.
Following a public hearing during the regular meeting of the Kandiyohi County Board, the commissioners approved an amendment to the county's party and gathering ordinance. Individuals who receive a warning from law enforcement regarding noise could now be charged with a misdemeanor if law enforcement is called again within 72 hours of the first warning. It was previously set at 24 hours, but officials said that was too short a time period.
The Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners held a work session on how to spend the remaining $1.6 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds the county has. Out of the original $8.3 million, the board dedicated 75 percent of it to expanding broadband access in the county.
