A new project intended to put homeless families in Lee County on the road to permanent housing was approved by county commissioners Tuesday, mapping a path that can lead from life on the streets to life in a home.
The program, which is getting $1.9 million from Lee County, targets homeless families that subsist by living on the streets, in vehicles, in shelters and even on friends couches.
The program could mean a hotel room first and then, when a home becomes available, a move into the re-housing program Lee County began last year.
Other families that require social services and other help to be able to live in a permanent home would first be placed in residences where they can get services they need to take the next step toward a place to live.
