As part of National Police week, which pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, Hawaiʻi County Police Chief Paul Ferreira and the Police Department held a private ceremony at the “Ka Malu Aloha” police memorial wall in Hilo on Monday, May, 10, 2021.
During the ceremony, tribute was made to Officer Manuel Cadinha, who gave his life in 1918, Officer William “Red” Oili, who gave his life in 1936, Officer Ronald “Shige” Jitchaku, who gave his life in 1990, Officer Kenneth Keliipio, who gave his life in 1997, Park Ranger Steve Makuakane-Jarrell, who gave his life in 1999, and Officer Bronson Kaimana Kaliloa, who was killed in the line of duty on July 18, 2018.
On Tuesday, March 16, 2021 Hawaiʻi County Police Chief Paul Ferreira promoted nine individuals to the rank of Sergeant/Detective effective immediately.
Detective Anson Caceras, a 17-year veteran was assigned to the Area II Criminal Investigation Section (Kona). He most recently served as a patrol officer in Hamakua.
Sergeant Keith Nacis, a 15-year veteran was assigned to patrol in the South Kohala district. He most recently served as a patrol officer in South Hilo.
Detective Tyler Prokopec, a 15-year veteran was assigned to the Area II Criminal Investigation Section (Kona). He most recently served as a patrol officer in Kona.
Sergeant Stephen Parker, an 11-year veteran was assigned to patrol in the North Kohala district. He most recently served as a patrol officer in Kona.
