The Suffolk County Legislature unanimously approved a $1.8 million contract with ShotSpotter in October and police officials said Monday they plan to install the software in several Suffolk communities chosen based on previous shots-fired calls.
A Suffolk County Police officer was shot in the thigh on Thursday afternoon after confronting a suspected Bloods gang member who was wanted for an armed robbery.
The program will take "a holistic and personal-centered approach" to mental health care so they can offer several methods of helping youths struggling with suicidal thoughts, Winter Landmann-Herd, a social worker for RISE, said.
