A former Lyon County teacher and soccer coach has entered a guilty plea in federal court to attempting to possess child pornography stemming from two incidents in 2019.
Michael Derek McCuiston changed his plea in court Friday. He agreed to waive the indictment charging him with attempting to produce child pornography and pled guilty to a superseding information that charges him with attempted possession.
McCuiston was the physical education teacher for the elementary and middle schools at Lyon County and was the boys’ varsity soccer coach at the time of his arrest.
Police said McCuiston placed a recording device in a school bathroom to capture videos of two girls under the age of 18. Lyon County Sheriff Brent White said he received an anonymous tip about McCuiston and alerted school officials.
Authorities say an Oak Grove teen out on probation for a robbery conviction was arrested on an active warrant in Lyon County Thursday night after he reportedly abandoned a stolen vehicle on Interstate 69.
Lyon County Sheriff Brent White reports law enforcement responded to assist a stranded motorist around 7:20 p.m. on Interstate 69 near the 71 mile-marker. He says a Kentucky State Police trooper was the first to arrive and found the SUV was unoccupied and had been stolen out of Oak Grove.
According to Sheriff White, a male subject was seen walking southbound near the area and was later located by Deputy Joe Witherspoon and Evansville Police Officer Shannon Oliver at the Eddyville 2nd Baptist Church off KY 3305 near Pebble Creek subdivision. Sheriff White says when the male was detained he was armed with a handgun that was also reported stolen.
