Two females believed to be victims of fatal Christmas morning crash

MARTINSBURG — Two females who have not yet been identified by police are believed to be the victims of a fiery, fatal crash early Christmas morning. Berkeley County Sheriff Curtis Keller said his department was called at 4:11 a.m. Friday to a single vehicle accident on Interstate 81, where it connects to Tavern Road near Berkeley Medical Center. While enroute, police were notified the vehicle was fully involved in flames and when the fire was put out, two occupants were located in the front deceased, Keller said. Keller said the 2017 Toyota Rav 4 was registered to a Hedgesville female, and since the accident those have called police with information stating she was believed to be with another female.

A Berkeley County sheriff’s deputy said finding the driver of a truck that crashed into a home killing an elderly woman Monday evening is a top priority. Cpl. Zachary Anaya, who is leading the investigation, said Wednesday on MetroNews “Talkline” the department is following up on several leads. “At this time, I want to use every lead that I can be given to continue to work the case,” Anaya said. “I’m not going to give up on anything. We’ve checked leads all of the way to Hampshire County. I’m a rabid dog in this and I’m going to track it down even if it takes me halfway across the state.”
