Construction on the new Delaware County Jail and Sheriff’s Office is expected to wrap up by early February.
Delaware County Sheriff John LeClere says the project manager has told him the tentative completion date is February 4
th – though they’re hoping to be in the building sooner.
The new facility is being built on the far west end of Manchester just northeast of Black Hills Energy at 1225 West Howard Street. Construction started earlier this year.
The County outgrew their current location, with inmates transferred to nearby county jails because they are regularly at their 12-bed capacity. The new jail will house 42 beds, with the option to add more beds in the future by finishing a second floor. The new location will also meet all safety and security requirements by the state jail inspector – something the current aging jail built in 1967 hasn’t been able to do for several years.
