More than 400 days have passed since Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital opened its specialized isolation units to care for COVID-19 patients. Since March 18 last year, more than 1,000 patients have received care at Cottage for the virus.

Billboards, vaccination health fairs and a new website, all designed to limit the spread of the coronavirus, are being considered by the COVID-19 Communications Unit.
So says Liz Thompson, Barbados’ departing United Nations (UN) Ambassador who until recently was the face of the unit, hosting the COVID-19 press briefings.
She told the
Saturday Sun in New York that these were among key initiatives being examined to reach a mass audience with information about the importance of the protocols, vaccinations and other health messages.
“We are having discussions about billboards and I would like to see vaccination (health) fairs particularly to target young people,” said Thompson, who will assume duties as Barbados’ special diplomatic envoy for climate change, small island developing states (SIDS) and the law of sea.
A TAUNTON baker set herself a mission to cheer up key workers who have been working tirelessly throughout the pandemic. Sue Manning, from Susie’s Bakehouse, has been baking cupcakes for staff in and around Taunton over the past few months. She also had help from the general manager at Morrisons in Taunton, Scott Murphy, who donated ingredients to bake the sweet treats. During the last lockdown, Sue baked around 200 cupcakes for NHS workers. She asked followers of her Facebook page - Susie’s Bakehouse - to nominate someone they know who would love to receive a “pick me up”.
