Blood shortage in Cumberland County, FDA eases some restrictions

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, there has been a national shortage on blood and blood donations. Restrictions placed on certain donors hasn t helped but health officials recently made a change, an official said. Cape Fear Valley Health began seeing their blood supply start to dwindle in March 2020 due to the implementation of social distancing and the cancellation of blood drives. The supply level locally has been at critical, meaning less than a two-day supply, since February, according to Lindsey Graham, spokeswoman for Cape Fear Valley Health.
