Teachers, bus drivers, and parents have said schools have dismissed early, allowing students to get on buses early.

ELKTON — A crowd of students and their families filled the athletic fields of Elkton Middle School Thursday for the Back to School Kick Off.

High school students returned to class on Monday for the first time in more than 10 days, and buses "were clear" at 7:48 p.m.

Students and parents felt the effect of delayed bus services and missed stops from the district’s transportation provider, STS of New Mexico.

Recess and outdoor activities at Chicago Public Schools will be moved indoors this week and outdoor sports games and practices will be postponed Wednesday and Thursday because of the extreme heat forecasted to hit the city.

Flash Dads is a Diversity, Equity and Poverty program created several years ago with efforts to bring in positive male role models.

Other districts were taking steps to limit students from being outdoors, including canceling sports.
