After months online, RI court is now in session
PROVIDENCE Jury trials are set to resume this month in Superior Court, with a distinctly different look, sound and feel, now more than a year into a pandemic that has altered almost all aspects of everyday life.
There will be three courtrooms needed, not just one. Jurors will sit in the jury box separated by plexiglass. A sound system will pipe audio. Air filters will purr. Masks will be worn, and the public can tune in from home.
“It’s forcing all kinds of innovations and ideas,” Craig N. Berke, spokesman for the judiciary, said during a tour of the newly outfitted courtrooms last week.
