PROVIDENCE Superior Court Magistrate Patricia Lynch Harwood will retire at the end of the month after two decades on the bench.  “It has been my greatest honor and privilege to serve the people of Rhode Island as a judicial officer for the past twenty years. I am grateful to have served alongside an outstanding group of judicial colleagues, clerks, sheriffs and courthouse staff who work tirelessly in the administration of our judicial system,” Harwood, 61, said in a letter to Superior Court Presiding Justice Alice B. Gibney announcing her May 31 retirement.

After months online, RI court is now in session PROVIDENCE Jury trials are set to resume this month in Superior Court, with a distinctly different look, sound and feel, now more than a year into a pandemic that has altered almost all aspects of everyday life. There will be three courtrooms needed, not just one. Jurors will sit in the jury box separated by plexiglass. A sound system will pipe audio. Air filters will purr. Masks will be worn, and the public can tune in from home. “It’s forcing all kinds of innovations and ideas,” Craig N. Berke, spokesman for the judiciary, said during a tour of the newly outfitted courtrooms last week.

Gina Raimondo’s authority to close gyms and other establishments as COVID cases surge. Last Friday, Long ruled in Raimondo’s favor in granting a temporary restraining order closing Maxx Fitness Clubzz, which had defied the governor’s order halting workouts at gyms during the state s two-week “pause.” (The pause has since been extended an additional week.)
