Back in October last year, Chevrolet pulled the veils off what it calls “the largest and most powerful crate engine in the brand’s history." Officially, it’s named ZZ632/1000 Deluxe, and we’re bound to see it in quite a lot of custom projects over the coming years.

In 1974, Direct Connection officially launched as the exclusive source for performance parts that were backed by the factory warranty, straight from the manufacturer. While the majority of their new performance parts are aimed at newer Dodge Challengers and Chargers, Direct Connection also has crate engines to speed up most classics.

Dodge Challenger and Charger owners can shop the Direct Connection line for upgrades to their vehicles that are covered by manufacturer warranties.

Under pressure from Dodge’s Hellcat-engined Challenger, the Blue Oval launched the Predator in the 2020 model year Mustang Shelby GT500. Derived from the flat-plane crankshaft Voodoo in the Shelby GT350, the cross-plane crankshaft V8 is now available as a crate engine.

After General Motors introduced the mid-engine Corvette, a few peeps wondered if the LT2 small-block V8 would be offered as a crate engine. The question is, why? As opposed to the LT1 small block in the seventh-generation Stingray, the 6.2-liter motor in the C8 has been developed specifically for mid-engine applications with longitudinal powerplants.

The inflation problem is nowhere close to being solved, but that doesn’t explain the MSRP of the Chevrolet ZZ632/1000 big-block V8.

We all know that most manufacturers will completely stop building vehicles powered by internal combustion engines in about a decade from now. More changes are coming by the year 2050. So the question on everyone's mind is: when are governments around the world going to ban ICE-powered cars from driving on public roads?

From 1977 to 1984, the fifth-generation Cadillac de Ville series of luxobarges wasn’t particularly exciting from the standpoint of performance. The switch to unleaded gasoline translated to reduced compression ratios, and early catalytic converters didn’t help either. For the sake of reference, the 4.1-liter V8 engine with throttle-body fuel injection produced only 135 horsepower for the 1983 model year.

A project car is not something to be taken lightly. You have to figure out where you're heading with it. Is it going to be a street-legal vehicle? Is it going to be an all-original restoration? Or perhaps you'd like to build a restomod. And I feel that establishing a timeline and a maximum budget is going to be crucial too.
