Valley Humane Society announces Wednesday workshops

At the Wednesday workshops, children have the opportunity to learn more about shelter animals and explore their health. (Photo credits to VHS Staff) The in-person series will be in the community room at Valley Humane Society’s adoption center on 3670 Nevada St. in Pleasanton. While Valley Humane will not be doing its Critter Camp this year, the educational workshop program aims to reintroduce humane lessons for kids. The Wednesday workshops are modeled for children age 8 and older. The sessions run from 4-5 p.m. with a variety of topics for every session. Workshop topics include Pets 101 and making dog and cat toys.

Animals including skunks, bobcats, horses and reptiles are being shown to the children. Children that attend will also learn proper ways to interact with animals, and how to get help for an animal that may need it. “There are critters and animals for children to touch and get up close to,” Ellen Wiemers, Beaumont Children’s Museum education coordinator, said. “All kids love animals. Animals in general bring a lot of comfort to kids.”
