Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton has been forced to temporarily close six of its emergency department beds as it deals with a staffing shortage. Multiple rural hospitals around the province have also had to temporarily close beds or emergency-room services due to a lack of doctors and nurses.

“People who need emergency care can and should continue to go to the Royal Alex the folks there are able to still continue to make sure people can get the critical care that they need,” Shandro said at an unrelated press conference Monday morning.

“It was never something I worried about.”
With little family history and no obvious signs, Khris Weeks never expected a mammogram and ultrasound would confirm she had breast cancer in January 2018.
She needed radiation following a lumpectomy and chemotherapy, but radiation treatment isn’t available locally in Grande Prairie. The closest place was the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, and treatment would be approximately four weeks.
With no family in Edmonton, Khris turned to Compassion House Foundation and its Sorrentino’s Compassion House for help.
