RTI responses show inconsistencies in the prices of PPE kits supplied to Assam's National Health Mission. Several companies linked to the Sarma family also have common, Kolkata-based investors.

The orders to firms owned by Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife and his family's business associate were given in spite of prices quoted above others, RTI replies have shown. As one firm failed to deliver the required number of kits, its contribution was turned into a 'CSR' activity.

The media blitzkrieg around this claimed purchase during the COVID-19 pandemic helped catapult Sarma to the top of the Assam BJP.

The first day of the Assam Assembly's winter session saw uproar - protests, adjournments and a walkout - over an alleged land grab scam involving a real estate company linked to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's family.

A police complaint was filed by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Assam.

The DIPR (Directorate of Information & Public Relations), on Friday, filed an FIR (First Information Report) at Dispur Police Station against web portal
