hour, it actually just came out online. thousands of anti-vax protesters apparently coming to washington ready to descend this weekend for a rally against vaccine mandates. they re expecting tens of thousands of people, this protest raised something like $200,000 from various crowd funding sites. you know if it happened on the internet ben collins is all over it, he is a reporter joining us now. talk us through what the expectation is. as you noted in your piece this is just perhaps one of the most high profile examples about how the anti-vax movement is moving out of the online realm and more into the real world and into politics here. yeah, these organizers are expecting at least 10,000 people and i wouldn t be surprised to be honest with you, you know, they have sold out hotels in virginia, they re staying in virginia because there is a mandate in washington, d.c. that you have to be vaccinated to go pretty much anywhere so they re saying in virginia, they re busing people in. it
is really quite breathtaking. this was an act of civil disobedience. we ve had those types of acts and protests for generations. we celebrated those acts with the civil rights movement. that s what was reference, causing good trouble, right? it is to act peacefully but disruptive. and that has been done to the generations. what happened here is that you have a prime minister declared these people insurrectionalists. terrorists. said they were threatening democracy itself. you have social media and the mainstream media echoing that, those attacks. then, worse yet, as you noted, we have these crowd funding sites that literally froze millions of dollars that average citizens wanted to give to support these truckers. when you put all that together, you ve extinguished the ability of thousands, perhaps even millions of people, to express
here, steve, ainsley and brian. we are up to report that the invocation of this emergencies act, which has never been used before. essentially gives the federal government sweeping powers in an attempt to get these truckers out of here. for starters, it gives local police federal law enforcement powers and resource was to try en40s local laws. it also, as you heard from the prime minister there, gives banks the ability to freeze bank accounts of truckers who are participating in what the federal government considers an illegal blockade. and also bank accounts of anybody supporting these truckers. and trucks who are participating, their insurance can be suspended. on top of that, money laundering and terrorist financing laws are being expanded to cover crowd funding sites like gifts and go, a source of funding from donations for these truckers. but, in speaking with the truckers, as soon as this emergency act was invoked
suspend insurance of truckers who are participating in what the government considers an illegal blockade. on top of that, they could freeze fundraising sites, crowd funding sites that are funneling money to truckers. but the truckers say the measures will not deter them. is it going to work, absolutely not. we are too powerful for that. we know what s right and what s wrong, and we can tell when they are bluffing and they bluffed every time. not everyone here in ottawa is pleased with these truckers. we have spoken to people who say it has shut down business in town. one woman had to close her cafe, so there are people frustrated, guys. the yesterday s order, that being said, any time a jury convenes and renders a decision, that is our system, that would allow a private citizen like governor
