In court filings defending new laws to end Election Day registration and tighten voter ID requirements, the Secretary of Stateâs office derided the Montana Democratic Party s lawsuit as âa last-ditch effort to do what it couldnât do at the ballot box or before the Legislature.â
That lawsuit, filed in Yellowstone County District Court by the Democrats in April, was amended last month to also challenge a third law that created new restrictions on ballot collection. The motion to dismiss the Democratsâ complaint, filed last week by Republican Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen, doesnât address claims related to that law.

On Tuesday, the United States and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) responded to requests that it should receive sanctions because of evidence the government allegedly hid relating to the 2015 Gold King Mine release of hazardous substances.
The first motion requesting sanctions was filed on May 4 by the Navajo Nation and New Mexico, two plaintiffs attempting to recover funds they spent in cleaning up the spill. The plaintiffs cited six sources of evidence which were purportedly concealed from the plaintiffs and the court related to documentation from two EPA employees who were on-scene coordinators, Hays Griswold and Steve Way.

Noting President Joe Biden’s cancellation of the Keystone XL Pipeline on Jan. 20, his first day in office, each party in a lawsuit by two Indian tribes purporting that the pipeline would cause environmental harm told the District of Montana that they agreed to dismiss the case without prejudice, ending the lawsuit.
The Rosebud Sioux Tribe and Fort Belknap Indian Community filed the stipulation of dismissal along with defendants, including Biden and various government departments, and intervenors in favor of the defendants, TC Energy Corp. and TransCanada Keystone Pipeline L.P.
“In the interest of conserving the Parties’ and Court’s resources,” the parties said they were dismissing the lawsuit and each paying their own costs and attorneys’ fees. The stipulation explained that canceling the permit for the pipeline made the case moot.

Bruce Fain There is a real issue with the COVID vaccine and being able to mandate employees get the vaccination, Fain said during the Zoom meeting on Thursday. That s because it s an emergency use authorization. The medical community requires a lot more informed consent, I believe, during that process.
