The ADATA Legend 960, a high-performance PCI Express 4.0 SSD, posted some excellent benchmark results and is a top pick for both gaming and creative work. It fits everything from gaming rigs to the PS5, though not the thinnest laptops.

The WD Black SN850X takes the company's flagship PCIe 4.0 gaming SSD and makes it even better, offering higher capacity and improved test results (including a new PC Labs record in the 3DMark Storage benchmark). About all it lacks is hardware-based security.

The Crucial P3 Plus is a budget PCI Express 4.0 internal SSD available in capacities up to 4TB. It met its rated sequential speeds in our tests, but its PCMark 10 benchmark numbers and durability ratings are on the low side.

The Crucial P3 provides good performance in a PCI Express 3.0 NVMe SSD. Its QLC NAND flash memory keeps the P3's price down while allowing capacities up to 4TB. It's a spot-on pick for upgrading older PCs that don't support PCIe 4.0.

Sabrent's Rocket 4 Plus is a durable internal PCI Express 4.0 SSD tested at its gigantic 8TB top capacity. It costs a premium, and proved slightly sluggish in our testing, but it'll let you max out an M.2 slot.

The HP FX900 isn't the fastest PCI Express 4.0 solid-state drive on the block, but this M.2 model puts up solid (and, in some cases, excellent) numbers at a surprisingly moderate price.

Seagate's latest USB external hard drive is decorated with motifs from "The Mandalorian" and offers capable performance at a not-too-elevated price. We only wish it were available in a capacity higher than 2TB.

The handsome little ADATA Elite SE880 is an external SSD that offers blistering speeds over a USB interface that'll likely require a PC upgrade to leverage fully.

The SK Hynix Platinum P41 posted record-high scores in some of our general storage and gaming tests. It's a super-value M.2 SSD; just add your own heatsink to ensure peak performance.

The Corsair MP600 Pro XT internal SSD has the raw speed for high-impact gaming and the cooling to stay in top form under pressure, though you'll want to look elsewhere if you need a drive for a laptop or PS5.
