Early detection of lung cancer in older smokers appears to be more effective than quitting. Earlier diagnosis via CT scan offers a better chance that treatment will work.

CT Screening: Lung cancer ranks as the fourth most frequently occurring cancer and is one of the top five causes of death in India. Annually, India alone witnesses over 72,000 new cases diagnosed. In a preliminary pilot study conducted at a tertiary medical facility involving smokers, lung nodules were detected in 93 per cent of the participants. Lung cancer accounts for 5.9 per cent of all cancer incidences and 8.1 per cent of all cancer-related fatalities.
