I called 911. My neighbors could smell the smoke. We all grabbed hoses from our neighbors. We all just grabbed each others hoses. Fire response was a little slower than expected. We just made sure that we watered anywhere near our homes. What were you thinking in those moments . Scary. I hope that nobodys home would burn and the wind kept shifting. You never knew what it was going. It started going to my neighbors house. Ke called a few times to tell them to come home. Very scary. This is just an empty field here. Totally empty field. No homes had to be evacuated, but im told the Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley was evacuated when the fires first broke out but it only lasted about ten minutes when crews realized they were going to get a handle on this pretty quickly. The Wildlife Center building was not damaged. Back out here lives, crews, as i said, getting a handle on this fire that made for a very scary afternoon for the homeowners here. Just off north capital avenue, a few blocks from mayberry road. Katy marzullo joins us there live after speaking with homeowners. Katy . Reporter matt, ama, im standing near the homes behind me so you can feel how close this fire was to all these homes. My photographer is going to turn around here and show you just how close the flames burned in this direction towards the homes. You can see crews still here on the scene, going around putting out hot spots. Weve been watching them in the last few minutes, break down larger branches of the trees that are smoldering at the base. The Fire Department said this fire is not contained, but crews have been able to stop the forward progression of the fire. And theyre not calling out any more crews. At this point, they dont have an estimate on the acreage, and thats in part due to the fact that the area is densely populated. But despite that, they tell me no homes had to be evacuated. Damaging property. Another came close to homes at cleariew and ever sol in north san jose. They were able to stop the fire from growing but not before coming within striking distance of several homes. Reporter the fir captain on scene tells me it burned about five acres. You can see whats left of an open field. Those acres way too close to home for people who live in the neighborhood here. They didnt even wait for the Fire Department after calling 911. They grabbed their garden hoses. Grabbed everybodys hoses because we know there are other fires apparently around here. You say scary, yes.
