Treasure hunting no longer under MGB

CEBU CITY, May 15 (PIA) The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Central Visayas (DENR-7) is no longer the governing agency on treasure hunting activities. MGB-7 Legal Officer Atty. Cid Jerome Navarez explained during the recent Kapihan sa PIA interview that treasure hunting activities are now under the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) in view of Republic Act 4846 as amended by Presidential Decree 374, otherwise known as the “Cultural Properties Preservation and Protection Act.”  The NMP is the government agency to implement the provision of this act and to regulate treasure hunting activities in public and private lands as the disposition of recovered hidden treasures or things of value, said Navarez.
