Cumbria County Council has brought together local partners to create a town team for Penrith. It includes representatives from Cumbria CVS (Cumbria Council for Voluntary Service) S, Cumbria County Council, Eden District Council, Penrith Town Council, Penrith Business Improvement District, Penrith Chamber of Trade, and Penrith Industrial Business Improvement District, who are working together to develop a ‘place vision’ for Penrith. It is hoped the plan will attract new businesses, increase and retain the working age population, improve the environment of the town, deliver new jobs, and increase visitors. A spokesman for Cumbria County Council said: We want to use the new place vision to build local pride and confidence in the town, and to help us further develop Penrith as we reignite our economy following the Coronavirus pandemic.
One pub is looking forward to playing a key role in upcoming elections, providing a place for people to not only discuss politics over a pint, but also cast their vote on the premises too. The Milbourne Arms, Carlisle, is set to be transformed into a polling station next week, with voters in the city’s Cathedral and Castle ward being asked to attend the pub in the Shaddongate area to have their say. Although local elections in Cumbria have been rescheduled until May 2022, due to the consultation on proposals for local government reorganisation in the county, elections for the vacant seats on local councils and for the Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner are due to be held on May 6.
RESIDENTS are running out of time to have their say on Cumbria s Covid recovery plan. The county s Strategic Recovery Coordination Group (SRCG) is reminding people that the consultation to gather feedback on the draft recovery strategy closes on Sunday.] With organisations across the county decimated by Covid, it is belueved a plan is essential for a succesful recovery. The SRCG is a partnership of organisations and authorities including the county council, district councils, Cumbria Police, NHS, Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, Cumbria Council for Voluntary Service, Cumbria Community Foundation, and others. The group is seeking the views of local people on their strategy to inform the final version of the document, which will be published in Summer.
