in the house seems more up in the air. you re looking at a potential senate trial up against, potentially, the iowa caucuses and new hampshire and a lot of crucial campaigning time for the democratic senators who are campaigning for president. so it s becoming a politically difficult and, frankly, logistically difficult calculation i think both sides of the capitol have not figured out yet. yikes. 2019 has been crowded. 2020 looks wow. i ll close with another red state set back for president trump. jon edwards won re-election of governor louisiana last night. until that final visit, the president referenced the impeachment fight here in washington. told louisiana voters, quote, you need to send a message to the corrupt democrats in washington. well, the president did not get his wish. louisiana has a very unique brand of politics. governor edwards is a relatively popular incumbent.
call and explains it in his complaint. now you have a second person. is it the same? and if you have a third or fourth, i don t know. as people keep coming forward, you have a complaint that is corroborated. you have a story that has, you know, the american people being like, okay, maybe something did happen. you have congressional leaders being, okay, there s three or four. i have multiple people s evidence. they are all categorizing it in a similar fashion. it becomes harder to push up against. we know from that complaint that the first whistle-blower laid out who was privy to the conversations, who was aware of all of this. it is something they have said time and time again he was provided with a clear road map going forward here. this would just add more detail to what he has.
think, confused about who they want the nominee to be, because they have so many choices. and so it is fascinating to see him sort of step back into this spotlight and reset the race once again. and you know, amanda, he has a rock star status with the base, but he has never expanded that group or had a majority of the support, and how big of a problem for 2020, and do you think it is a problem at all? i mean it s just really coming down to, and i hate this phrase binary choice, but who he has meshed up against. here s where i think that democrats can be wrong to play it safe. i know where you going with this. you know where i am going on this. and this is where joe biden is not the best matchup against trump. people are playing it safe. and safe choices do not win usually. ask mitt romney or hillary clinton, because people want a clear contrast and a choice, and this is where the democrats are
they acknowledge that that is a weakness for him, so i think right now he is trying to do as much as he can on the fund-raising front. and the way of raising money has really changed, right? we saw that with bernie sanders. he got that big number because he has you know, he has far fewer far smaller average, i think $27 when he was running in 2016. they used to shout 27, 27, 27. having said that, eli, when you put all these things together, as you said, he s got the ad maker out there, he s talking to an extensive network of people. nobody in this race has the network of people that joe biden has accumulated over the last many decades. and you put that up against and his personality, but put it up against beto o rourke who maybe is not as far along organizationally, how do you look at those different things?
to a lot of people like katy hill. she came up outside of the system. she s somebody who is challenging an established names, there s a two-term incumbent she ll go up against, but initially there s like a dozen democrats. she eventually went up against three of them. if you re still playing by the old party rules. if you re the democrats, or the republicans for that matter, you knee to start figuring out what s going on. this story is incredible and this organization is done something i, as a republican, would be very afraid of the they re use a single message, flip of house, swing left. so focused anyone can go into the district closest to them. it s organized. and they re doing more than money. they re bringing bodies, which mean they can canvass potential
