>> thank you so much. cnn politics senior reporter steven colinson with us now. good morning to you. we know donald trump, as he said, talking constantly, pretty constantly about this election being rigged, even saying it in the primaries about the primary decisions that were being made. paul ryan, though, says no, he does not believe so. i want to read you his exact verbiage here. paul ryan saying, "our democracy relies on confidence in election results, and the speaker is fully confident the states will carry out this election with integrity." here's the thing. is there a sense donald trump is saying this because if he loses this is his excuse for the loss? or is this more of donald trump trying to highlight what a lot of his supporters think is a broken washington? >> i think it's a bit of both, christi. donald trump has used the idea that he and his supporters have been persecuted by the political establishment as a rallying call for his base throughout this campaign, as you rightly said, in the primaries as well. but i think there's also something more personal going on, as you suggest. if you think about it, donald trump's entire political rationale, his business brand even is built around the idea he's the ultimate winner. sought prospect that he could face defeat on the biggest stage which he's ever ascended must be a very difficult one for him to rationalize. so i think there could be some sort of face saving going on. i think it's a very explosive way of, you know, doing politics. there are a lot of people i think in washington who are becoming increasingly concerned about what would happen if we have a close election if, for instance, hillary clinton won narrowly by a few electoral college votes, and donald trump had gone into the election saying it was rigged from the outset. and i think that's something that's worrying and i think paul ryan's comments from his spokesman reflect that. and we've heard the president talk about it as well. >> okay. let's look at some of these numbers from the washington poll -- post. "washington post" poll that's out today. it was interesting. 68% of people polled say -- or women -- 68% of women polled say they do think donald trump made unwanted sexual advances. this is according to this "washington post"/abc news poll. but 64% of all people polled say that the tape that they saw of what he said on that bus with "access hollywood" makes no difference in,000 they're going to vote. what do you make of that? >> it's very interesting. i think there is also significant evidence in other polls that the exact voters that donald trump needs to win the election, suburban, college-educated women in place like philadelphia and colorado, do not look upon donald trump's alleged offenses very kindly, and it could hurt him in the states he needs to win. it's definitely the case. i think if you look at donald trump's supporters particularly, it doesn't carry much water with them. if you you talk to them it's clear they do believe already the media is totally biased against donald trump, that the establishment is trying to bring him down, that the media is in lag with hi league with hillary clinton, so what he says at his rallies is already on fertile ground. and you have to say that donald trump has made a very intimate connection with these voters, perhaps more than any presidential candidate in several decades on the republican side. their issues, immigration, for example, terrorism, the messages that donald trump is putting across get right to the core of exactly what they believe. so personal allegations for that core of voters i think are much less powerful than they would for more moderate and perhaps undecided voters. >> stephen collinson, appreciate your insight this morning. thank you. next, a closer look at these new numbers after this spate of october surprise. and what's behind donald trump's claim that hillary clinton could be on drugs? and later, political satire courtesy of "snl." >> i strive to be a positive role model for all children. children like my daughter chelsea and my granddaughter chelsea jr. >> mr. trump, same question. do you feel you're modeling appropriate and positive behavior for today's youth? >> no. next. i had so many thoughts once i left the hospital after a dvt blood clot. what about my wife... ...what we're building together... ...and could this happen again? i was given warfarin in the hospital, but wondered, was this the best treatment for me? i spoke to my doctor and she told me about eliquis. eliquis treats dvt and pe blood clots and reduces the risk of them happening again. not only does eliquis treat dvt and pe blood clots. but eliquis also had significantly less major bleeding than the standard treatment. knowing eliquis had both... ...turned around my thinking. don't stop eliquis unless you doctor tells you to. eliquis can cause serious, and in rare cases, fatal bleeding. don't take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. if you had a spinal injection while on eliquis call your doctor right away if you have tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness. while taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily... and it may take longer than usual for bleeding to stop. seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. eliquis treats dvt & pe blood clots. plus had less major bleeding. both made switching to eliquis right for me. ask your doctor if it's right for you. i've heard it all. eat more fiber. flax seeds. yogurt. get moving. keep moving. i know! try laxatives. been there, done that. my chronic constipation keeps coming back. i know. tell me something i don't know. vo: linzess works differently from laxatives. linzess treats adults with ibs with constipation or chronic constipation. it can help relieve your belly pain, and lets you have more frequent and complete bowel movements that are easier to pass. do not give linzess to children under six and it should not be given to children six to seventeen. it may harm them. don't take linzess if you have a bowel blockage. get immediate help if you develop unusual or severe stomach pain, especially with bloody or black stools. the most common side effect is diarrhea sometimes severe. if it's severe stop taking linzess and call your doctor right away. other side effects include gas, stomach-area pain and swelling. talk to your doctor about managing your symptoms proactively with linzess. the sexual assault scandal surrounding donald trump is getting worse. a ninth woman now has come forward accusing the republican candidate of grabbing, then kissing her without her permission. she says the incident happened nearly 20 years ago at his mar-a-lago estate in florida. cnn has not been able to independently confirm heller's claims, but trump has responded, releasing this statement through his campaign spokesman. here it is. "the media has gone too far in making this false accusation. there is no way that something like this would have happened in a public place on mother's day at mr. trump's resort. it would have been the talk of palm beach for the past two decades. the reality is this. for the media to wheel out a politically motivated democratic activist with a legal dispute against this same resort owned by mr. trump does a disservice to the public and anyone covering this story should be embarrassed for elevating this bogus claim." now, despite the accusations there is this new "washington post"/abc news poll that shows trump four points behind hillary clinton. look at the numbers. same level of support he saw in july before the conventions. let's discuss now with kassim reed, mayor of atlanta and hillary clinton supporter. also betsy mccoy, former lieutenant governor of new york and a donald trump supporter. mr. mayor, madam lieutenant governor, good morning to you. >> good morning, victor. >> nice to see you, victor. >> nice to see you. i want to start, though, with what we heard from donald trump, lieutenant governor, as it relates to potential drug use. let's play it. >> we should take a drug test prior -- because i don't know what's going on with her. but at the beginning of her last debate she was all pumped up at the beginning. and at the end it was like oh, take me down. she could barely reach her car. so i think we should take a drug test. anyway, i'm willing to do it. >> all right. i hear you laughing there. >> i am laughing, victor, because this is donald trump's classic new york humor. i laughed the first time i heard it, and i still laugh when i hear it. but i want to tell you in the same vein that mrs. clinton does have a serious health problem. she has a special form of alzheimer's. whenever she's asked to tell the truth, she can't remember. >> okay. so when you're standing in portsmouth and a state that has such a challenge with a drug problem and you call it his new york humor -- >> it was new york humor. i think you're slanting it to make it sound like it's disrespectful of the people of portsmouth. but in fact -- >> you don't find anything wrong with a presidential candidate claiming that his opponent was high during the debate? >> it was a joke. and he was talking to the half of the nation, the deplorables. and they thought it was very funny. >> mr. mayor? >> i mean, my response is simple. this is a frankenstein candidacy and donald trump is frankenstein's creation and what we're doing is watching a person come apart. and fortunately, we have less than 25 or 26 days left to go and we're going to put this frankenstein to bed. so donald trump should do all of the talking that he wants to do because the bottom line is the only folks he's really speaking to is his base. he's losing women. he's losing independents. and he's losing the election. so that's what we're seeing. we're seeing someone absolutely come apart. he's a national embarrassment. and what we know about donald trump is he prides himself on being a winner. well, he's going to lose on the biggest stage in the world because of his behavior towards women and because of his behavior in the debates. >> let's bring these numbers in. you say he's going to lose. and we put them up earlier. this new abc news/"washington post" poll has him just four points behind hillary clinton but the margin offaror is four points. so it's statistically tied. fox has her seven ahead. the "wall street journal" has her nine points ahead. we'll see if this is an outlier or a trend. it shows here the numbers are the same as they were before the convention. and i'll ask you, mr. mayor, first and then to you, lieutenant governor, if you say he's going lose, where's the evidence of that at least in this poll in the national numbers? >> sure. >> let's put up what has happened since july as you give your answer there. >> okay. well, first of all, national polls, this election won't be determined by the national polls. i happen to believe that she's up by more than that. but if you go state by state and go to the electoral college, there is no serious person who would rather be donald trump than be secretary clinton. the fact of the matter is she's significantly up in pennsylvania. she's up nine. she's up in florida. she's up in north carolina. she's up in colorado. so the point is we have to get to the electoral college. and everybody who's looking at this knows that right now donald trump sits at around 107 to 190 electoral votes and secretary clinton sits at about 260 to 263. so anybody who's saying that don trump has a path, please show it to me. >> lieutenant governor, we have reported extensively here on how this path has gotten narrower. mr. trump needs a collection of states. secretary clinton, as it appears now, needs to pick off one or another here or there of the swing states. your response to what the mayor said? >> well, there's no question that at this point donald trump is the underdog. but as more information comes out, especially from the most recent wikileaks, voters are going to be listening carefully. i'll give you one example, victor. >> yeah. >> in the batch of wikileaks this week mrs. clinton is shown supporting behind closed doors totally open borders and unlimited immigration. she said that in a speech to a brazilian bank. i'm looking -- just a minute -- >> i have to jump in here -- >> no. >> -- because we have you here for another segment to talk about wikileaks. we'll have you here with christi -- but we're going to talk about wikileaks. >> i'm talking about the polls, victor. >> hold on. lieutenant governor -- >> i'm talking about the polls. >> we will get to wikileaks in a moment. i want to get the response to something else. and i promise you'll have that opportunity to talk about that. but i want to put up this tweet that came out from david axelrod who once worked as you know for president obama and now is with cnn. he says this. "drug testing? you have to wonder if hillary clinton will or should reconsider the next debate given the depth to which this has sunk." quickly. we don't have much time. but mr. mayor, what do you think about that potential that hillary clinton will or should reconsider the third debate? >> well, that's why people in america believe that don trump is unfit to be president of the united states, and that's why he is losing this election. he's down in michigan. he's down in florida. >> but should she reconsider the third debate? >> no. she needs to go forward with it. he'll be easy work for her just as he's been in the first two debates. the american people, cnn's results show that she's now won both debates overwhelmingly. and she will win the third. >> lieutenant governor -- >> i think it would be a very smart move for her not to show up for the third debate because she's got a lot of answering to do about what came out in the wikileaks this week. >> and don trump has to answer to nine women who have accused him of sexual -- >> believe me the evidence is already out that those allegations -- >> we've got to wrap it here. we'll have you both back to talk about the wikileaks and the hacking of john podesta's e-mails. mayor reed, lieutenant governor mckaugy, thank you both. >> thank you, victor. >> clinton versus trum. wednesday, final presidential debate showdown, live coverage begins at 4:00 right here on cnn. and as we've discussed, wikileaks is living up to its promise to hack the clinton campaign. ahead, we're going to talk about those e-mails that have been released including what appears to be transcripts of those three paid speeches to goldman sachs. and another story that we're following very closely this morning, at think moment the battle for mosul will begin. why iraq's largest city is a crucial target in this war on isis. who says i shouldn't have a soda everyday? my doctor. my dentist. definitely my wife. wait, i know what i want. make sparkling water at home. and drink 43% more water every day. sodastream. love your water. 23 minutes after the hour now. turkish-backed syrian rebels have beaten isis out of the town of dabe. that's in northern syria. >> the recapture of the city is being called a major symbolic victory in the war on isis. according to a statement in turkish media, troops are now trying to clear the area of mines and ieds. the last group of isis fighters reportedly withdrew overnight. the town there is featured in islamic prophecies and isis used its name for one of its propaganda publications. so let's shift here to the fight against isis in iraq. in a moment iraqi forces are going to start moving into the city of mosul. now the iraqi air force has dropped leaflets warning civilians of the coming fight and some isis fighters we understand already on the run. cnn senior international correspondent ben wedeman has covered this extensively. he joins us live from iraq. ben, help us understand how strong a grasp do the iraqi military believe they have on mosul once they get in there in terms of the isis militants who may still be lingering there? >> well, it's going to be quite a challenge, christi, because mosul is a see that under normal circumstances had a population of about 2 million. now it's somewhere between 700,000 and 1 million. but it is a large city. it's iraq's second largest. and it's one in which isis has, we understand from sources inside the city, prepared some significant defenses. yesterday we learned that isis had released many of the prisoners in its jails. people who were jailed for things like smoking cigarettes, shaving, and wearing the wrong clothing, they have been put into the job of digging trenches and tunnels around the city in anticipation for this coming offensive, which we do believe could be happening any moment now. we understand that the nerves of some of the isis fighters are starting to fray, that some of them have left the city. we understand that many of the foreign fighters have left, probably making their way to syria, perhaps to isis's de facto capital of raqqah. what remains apparently is a small number of chechen and pakistani fighters, and most of the isis fighters are from mosul itself. so they know the terrain well, and we understand that the city has been booby trapped by isis in anticipation of this offensive. so it could be messy, it could be bloody, and it could take quite some time. >> and you do think about all of the people who are still trapped, the civilians who are still trapped in that city as well and what they're going to be enduring. ben wedeman, thank you so much. we appreciate it. is there now new trouble for hillary clinton? wikileaks released a hacked e-mail showing transcripts of her three -- three of i should say her paid speeches to goldman sachs. what's the impact? we'll examine that in a moment. h often feel dry? a dry mouth can cause cavities and bad breath. over 400 medications can cause a dry mouth. that's why there's biotene. biotene can provide soothing dry mouth relief. and it keeps your mouth refreshed too. remember while your medication is doing you good, a dry mouth isn't. biotene, for people who suffer from dry mouth symptoms. good to see you. 7:30 in the morning here. i'm christi paul. >> i'm victor blackwell. >> talking about a new poll out this morning showing hillary clinton and donald trump in a statistical tie here. brand new "washington post"/abc news poll has clinton ahead of trump by just four points. but that is within the margin of error. >> now, the poll was released as another woman comes forward to say donald trump kissed her without consent. this was almost 20 years ago, she alleges. it's cathy heller. she is the ninth trump accuser. but the trump campaign says there is no way her account is true. meanwhile, trump is not backing down from these claims that the election is being rigged. he's also suggesting now that hillary clinton during the second debate used performance-enhancing drugs. >> we should take a drug test because i don't know what's going on with her. >> hillary clinton's campaign may have some new questions to answer regarding her e-mail scandal. wikileaks released more of her campaign hacked e-mails including what appears to be transcripts of three paid speeches to goldman sachs. now, it's important to note here cnn has not independently verified the authenticity of these e-mails but let's bring back kasim reed, mayor of atlanta and clinton supporter and betsy mccaughey, former lieutenant governor of new york and trump supporter. thank you for being with us. i want to get into wikileaks this morning. one particular part of a speech from october 2013 that reads "there was also a need to do something because for political reasons if you were an elected member of congress and people in your constituency were losing jobs and shutting businesses and everybody in the press is saying it's all the fault of wall street you can't sit idly by and do nothing." so is the implication here that something has to be done not because wall street's doing anything wrong but for political gain? mayor reed. >> my sense is that it's not appropriate to really be commenting on these items because we don't know if they've been manufactured by the rulg russians. what i think is americans are more troubled by the fact the russian government is trying to help put don trump in office. and because we haven't seen his tax returns we have no idea what his financial relationships are with russia or with china. what we do know is that the fbi has said that it is highly likely that russians have been involved in this hack. so we really don't know what documents are false or what documents are true. and i think more disturbing is the fact that the russian government is trying to assist don trump to become president of the united states so that he can break long-standing global agreements with countries that make up the nato alliance, the most important alliance that emerged after world war ii. the biggest break we have seen with don trump and his running mate was over russia. i think everybody remembers the debate when the commentator was reflecting on mike pence's comments about being aggressive and engaging russia in an aggressive fashion and don trump said he hadn't talked to him at all and if so he disagreed with him. >> you're right about that. >> and that's disturbing. >> we have had these conversations many times about the authenticity of these. you just heard us say we can't verify it. the clinton campaign is saying that they cannot verify it either. but there's no doubt about it that this speaks directly to the bernie sanders supporters that she's trying to court right now. so the question is is this going to be a big problem for her? >> i'd like to address that. >> you know what, christi -- >> let's let mayor reed finish and then we'll turn to you, lieutenant governor. >> fact of the matter is what's going to be impactful for bernie sanders supporters is what senator sanders says. and senator sanders is standing shoulder to shoulder with secretary clinton and has said in no uncertain terms that this election is too important to america and to the world to allow donald trump to become president of the united states. and i think that the most compelling argument is going to be when senator sanders and secretary clinton are campaigning all over america together. >> all right. lieutenant governor, go ahead. >> yes, i'd like to address that. first of all, although that particular passage suggests, as many others do, mrs. clinton says one thing in private and another thing in public, the far more damning portions of these speeches are where she commits herself to open borders and unlimited immigration. and the reason that that is so damning is that if you look at just the last year jobs held by foreign workers increased 5% in this country whereas jobs held by american-born workers increased only 1%. newcomers to this country, immigrants legal and illegal, are displacing american workers. and that is going to be very important in battleground states like florida, ohio, pennsylvania, and north carolina where people in service jobs and lower-paying jobs are losing those jobs to newcomers to this country and in some cases are being forced to train the people who are taking over their jobs. >> okay. i want to get to one more thing that's in the "times" actually this morning, "the new york times." there is so much to talk about, as you have already talked about this morning, regarding donald trump and the women conversation. the women that are coming out accusing him of sexual assault. the things that he has been caught saying on tape and speeches, frankly. but the "times" has this to say about hillary clinton and how she can or cannot, rather, combat that. "though hillary clinton," it says, "has stood at the center of feminist debates for more than two decades, she has at times been an imperfect messenger for the cause. that has never been more apparent than now as her old missteps and her husband's history have effectively paralyzed her during a moment of widespread outrage." in other words, mayor, it sounds as though they're saying because of her past it's very difficult for her to make a case against donald trump right now when it comes to the treatment of women. you say what? >> christi, i say that that's not what the numbers show. what the numbers in your polling data show is that women are coming to the side of hillary clinton. and what i'm absolutely stunned by is to hear a trump supporter talking about what someone said in private versus public. if we're talking about what someone says in private, the comments that don trump made were absolutely deplorable. and as opposed to going out and simply apologizing and moving on, he has gone out and attacked the women who have come forward. you have an individual that's running for president that's causing people in the united states to change the name of titic tacs to don trump. i'm surprised we're talking about private comments because if we're talking about private comments i don't think that's a healthy conversation for don trump to have. >> lieutenant governor? >> yes, i'd like to respond. as many of these allegations that have come forward, there is just as much evidence proving that they're all politically motivated. >> that's not true. >> let me give you an example. please don't interrupt me, mr. mayor. when gloria allred, a clinton delegate and professional man shamer, trotted out miss anderson -- i have very big sympathies for any woman who has to do this. but she trotted her out like a pony on a rope at a press conference and had her charge donald trump with sexual misconduct many years ago. no one in the media covered the fact that miss allred is in fact a clinton delegate, a bigwig democrat. all of these are the same. when "the new york times" published that totally unsubstantiated charge by mrs. leeds, the elderly woman, no fact checking was done. was she on a plane with donald trump? >> really chilling details, alisyn. these three men are accused of using a weapon of mass destruction. curtis allen, gavin wright and patrick stein. what the plan was according to the fbi they were going to pack explosives into several vehicles and then put them on the outside of this apartment complex. four vehicles and then blow it up. all this was supposed to happen the day after the election, but according to the fbi investigators, they started finding out that this group was compiling the weapons and they put a stop to it. you can see why people, obviously, would be scared about this. the chilling details of the men who packed the weapons in garden city, kansas, and then go outside this somali apartment complex and target it and blow it up. something the fbi has stopped. >> ryan, thank you very much. a new batch of e-mails released over the weekend by wikileaks. again, hacked from the inbox of clinton campaign chairman john podesta's inbox. that means whoever did this committed a crime. but we do believe that there is a public interest in it. let's see what's there and how these e-mails may be distorted. we have editor in chief of "daily beast" john avlon. this is one of those difficult situations. the fruit of the poisonous tree that we're going through here. >> that's exactly right. not only leaking documents is completely legal, hacking, as you pointed out, is criminal. the added element saying that russian government officials instructed this hack in order to disrupt the election. we do not know what, if anything, is doctored in these e-mails, as well. all that being said, to your point, we have an obligation at this point of the election to show what is out there in the spirit of transparency. >> here is some of the interesting items being used by trump and his campaign. the first one, of course, as john was referring, the speeches that hillary clinton gave to goldman sachs and other banks and transcripts out and we remember the allegation. >> to wall street and international banks that she hid from the public and which were exposed by wikileaks. and, by the way, just as i'm walking on to the stage mayor giuliani said, you're not going to believe this. look at this. we have all of these new charges. did you see it just came down today. wikileaks some brutal stuff. just trust me, it's real bad stuff. >> okay. there are no charges, obviously. these are just things the e-mail suggest assuming that they are not doctored in any way. we have not heard from the people they were hacked from. what do you pick up in these? >> first of all, it's fair to say the campaign because he is splaying to the crowd in these speeches. >> that means? >> she's saying that dodd frank, that's something she had to support politically, vaguely apologizing in the wake of the great recession. that would have been political poison in a primary. but no smoking gun here. >> what about this. now, everybody can't help th themselves. she seemed to be apologetic at the banks for regulating them. is that the right gesture you want. when people do things for the system for their own gain all the time and never get prosecuted? >> no, that is the problem. she is playing to the paying crowd in these speeches. >> now, you can see those for yourself. they're online. we don't know if any of the language has been changed or anything like that, because it would have to be verified by the people that wrote them. all right, juanita broderick. >> struggling to get the media to pay attention to her for many, many years. last night i decided we would y media and the clintons. >> what he's calling hypocrisy, they're going after my accusers, but not dealing with their own. juanitsi tr juanita said something happened in 1998 and ken starr looked at her and decided not to use her in the impeachment of bill clinton. what do you see in the e-mails? >> the clinton campaign was concerned. they knew these problems would come back and basically exchanged legal documents, clinton's lawyer exchanges legal documents giving the background on broderick. this is the legal record to begin preparing a defense for what they knew was coming. >> you didn't see it as a smear. okay, the media. >> they show how the media collaborates and conspires directly with the clinton campaign. >> all right. good. short and sweet. the first thing, john, we only have one side of the e-mails here. if we had the trump side, reporters work with him all the time. maggie haverman is here, we had a very good relationship with her over the years and killing it in this election. we had her tee up stories for us before and have never been disappointed. nobody is more wire under to the trump campaign than she is. >> maggie haberman. these e-mails are showing one side of the conversation. but relationship between political reporters and politicians are as old. the reporters reaching out and campaigns working with reporters. but that's true on both sides of the aisle. important to know. >> did you see anything in here? how about the harwood. the cnbc guy. >> i think where you can cross the line is when it appears that people are working with reporters are working with campaigns too closely or there is a degree of a little bit too much sucking up and trying to get an interview. that looks bad optically, but it doesn't really cross an ethical line unless you see collusion and none of these e-mails show that. >> i can't tell you how many times i had discussions with trump's people why did he argue this, instead of this. now, is that me giving him advice? no, actually asking questions. just trying to get inside the mind of the campaign. we want to understand their motivation so we can pass it to you. the last one. this is the trickiest read if you watch it on wiki. under an alias was e-mailing with hillary clinton and this is a reason why obama, the president of the united states, somehow stopped the doj from prosecuting the e-mails because he was on the threads. >> right. so, this is where you really need the reality check especially. first of all, we don't have the e-mails. we do know there were apparently eight e-mail exchanges between the president and hillary clinton that were caught up in the benghazi inquiest. those were private due to presidential privilege, but released eventually. the conspiracy theory you just said is that the president basically squelched the investigation for his own purposes. moreover that is the way the presidents generally operate when there are special investigations. so, this is, this stuff can become sort of fodder for fever dreams, but this is not anything that we can see from these e-mails that shows any degree of collusion yet alone getting involved in an investigation from the oval office. >> john avalon, thank you very much. we'll be reporting on what wikileaks puts out but try to make sense if it is being used accurately and is helpful to you. so, tweet us, post your comment on facebook.com/newday. there is a lot of news. the election has taken yet another turn. let's get to it. >> donald trump has kind of started to go wilder and wilder. >> we should take a drug test because i don't know what's going on with her. >> this election is incredibly painful. >> it's a rigged system. >> we will absolutely accept the results of the election. >> it isn't easy running against someone who is so negative, dark and dangerous. >> this is the last chapter of isis in iraq. >> battle for mosul begins. >> 1.5 million people at risk. >> this is a battle that promises to be very, very difficult. this is "new day" with chris cuomo and alisyn camerota. a big day, a scary day. an assault of mosul iraqi forces aided by the u.s. and others being called decisive moment and definitely decisive for the million plus people trapped there. >> we have our reporters on the front lines. we'll bring them to you momentarily. welcome to your "new day." now donald trump is intensifying his charnel that the election is rigged. blaming democrats and a corrupt media are conspiring against him. trump's running mate, once again, playing cleanup. saying they will "absolutely accept the election result." >> what result is this having on the polls? the cnn poll of polls the compilation of all of them together shows hillary clinton widening her lead over trump to eight points. 47% for hillary clinton and 39% for donald trump. so much is at stake. only two days until the final debate. 22 days until election day. so, let's begin our coverage with cnn's phil mattingly. phil, give us the latest. >> no shortage of issues that donald trump has pushed throughout his campaign as rigged. whether it's the media or the political establishment. the iowa caucuses. but this pushing the electoral results as rigged in its entirety is a new and very dark term. one that is unsettling, even some of his republican supporters. >> remember this. it's a rigged election. >> reporter: for donald trump there is only one reason he's trailing in the polls. a conspiracy to keep him out of the white house. >> the election is being rigged by corrupt media pushing completely false allegations and outright lies in an effort to elect her president. >> reporter: in rally after rally, tweet

Transcripts For CNNW New Day Sunday 20161016

these final weeks of the election. good sunday morning to you. it's 6:00 a.m. bright and early. i'm rhys ti paul. >> i'm victor blackwell. good to be with you. and this morning a new "washington post"/nbc news poll has hillary clinton up four points over donald trump. but let me say here that the margin of error is four points. so essentially tied. now, this is coming as another woman says donald trump kissed her without consent nearly 20 years ago. her name is kathy heller. she's the ninth trump accuser. but the trump campaign says there is no way her account is true. >> in the meantime donald trump is not backing down from his claims the election is being rigged, as you heard there. he's also now suggesting hillary clinton's using some sort of drugs. take a listen. >> we should take a drug test prior -- because i don't know what's going on with her. but at the beginning of her last debate she was all pumped up at the beginning and at the end it was like, oh, take me down. she could barely reach her car. anyway, i'm willing to do it. >> in the meantime, hillary clinton still haunted this morning by wikileaks after more hacked e-mails are released, including what appears to be transcripts of three paid speeches to goldman sachs. cnn has not independently verified the authenticity of those e-mails. both candidates getting ready for the next showdown, preparing for the final presidential debate, three days away now on wednesday. cnn's phil mattingly is following that story for us and more. phil? >> reporter: hey, victor and christi. for donald trump there's no question about it. his campaign at this point, is donald trump trying to play defense more or less, but in a very trumpian-type fashion, and that means going on offense, believe it or not, even though as many as nine women have now made allegations of sexual misconduct related to donald trump. donald trump is not pulling back. he's not trying to put it behind him. he's not even focused on some of the issues that his advisers have told him are necessary to win swing states like ohio or colorado or virginia. he is attacking. attacking the women, attacking their stories, even attacking their appearances. take a listen. >> we're going to stop it. we're not going to back down. and remember this, it's a rigged election because you have phony people coming up with phony allegations, with no witnesses whatsoever, ending up from 20 years ago, 30 years ago. how about this crazy woman on the airplane? okay? i mean, can anybody believe that one? how about this? after 15 minutes -- we don't know each other. after 15 minutes she said, well, that was too much. 15 minutes? with the ladies in this place it would be one second and it would be smack. >> reporter: and guys, it's worth noting that donald trump isn't just focused on the women who have made these allegations, he's also really focused rally after rally on the last couple days on something else. this idea that the election, that the vote on november 8th will be rigged. now, the idea of rigged is something that donald trump as we all know has talked about pretty repeatedly over the course of his 16-month campaign. but he has really come into focus on this idea that the electoral process itself is rigged against him, that the combination of the media, hillary clinton, even the republican party leaders who have gone against him over the course of the last couple weekends, it's all part of a grand conspiracy to ensure that he doesn't win on november 8th. now, it's worth noting tlds no evidence that the electoral process is rigged against anybody right now. but it is also worth noting that when you talk to donald trump supporters, we talked to a number of them here in maine, they believe everything he's saying. and i can tell you that that is an unsettling prospect not just for hillary clinton's campaign or for democrats but also for republicans. paul ryan's spokesperson putting out a statement saying that he has every faith and confidence that the election will go according to plan and more or less, to paraphrase, is not rigged. but that is not what donald trump has been pushing. it's something raising a lot of questions and concerns. three weeks left in the campaign, donald trump has clearly settled on this issue as one he wants to push going forward. it's something to keep a very close eye on, guys, as we all watch what happens over the course of these days and weeks. victor and christi? >> thank you so much. we want to bring in cnn politics reporter eugene scott. eugene, good to see you this morning. so donald trump constantly saying that this election is rigged as he's talking about. paul ryan says it is fair. i want to put up his exact verbiage here. "our democracy relies on confidence in election results. and the speaker is fully confident the states will carry out this election with integrity." here's the question. do you get a sense that donald trump is trying to initially say listen, it's rigged because if, for instance, in the end it doesn't go in his favor he is -- he's paving the way for that, for that excuse to be the reason? >> absolutely. i think donald trump in using the language of it being rigged, it's not just attacking his rival and the democratic party but also the republican party as well. and so when he uses that type of language he's mustering up frustration from his supporters to be lodged at paul ryan and all those other lawmakers who have backed away from trump and hoping that they can somehow move forward with taking the momentum that they've built into an area that leads to some type of changes in the process. >> let's talk about this "washington post"/abc poll, the newest. since the tape came out last week of donald trump on the bus with "access hollywood." overall, clinton has a four-point lead, it shows, but let's be honest. as victor said earlier, there's a four-point margin of error here. so they are essentially tied. is that going to surprise some people as we sit in the aftermath of everything that has happened since that "access hollywood" tape was shown last week? >> i don't think it surprises that many people who are very aware of the amount of people who are never clinton. i think a lot of people at trump's support -- at his rallies, his supporters, his base, are under the belief that these are just allegations, they have not been proven to be true. and they still support many of the ideas that he proposes or at least believe that they are better than those that hillary clinton has proposed. it'll be interesting to see what happens at this debate, if we will be able to go back to the issues and talk about the topics that matter most to americans or if much of the time will be spent on these personal accusations. >> and it seems that hot mike reporting on the bus didn't have a lot of effect on his support. 84% of republicans and 60% of independents say it's not even going to make a difference to them and how they vote. is that because of the anti-clinton sentiment that's out there? >> it's because of that as well as the fact that there are many people who really do believe that donald trump will make america great again "uss a better candidate than hillary clinton. i think a demographic to pay closer attention to is women voters. how have they moved? the republican party really does need to make some improvements, some strides in the amount of women backing donald trump. and based off the most recent magic wraul i've seen with john king there has been a shift amongst some women voters, even republican women, since that recording. >> there's an article in the "times" this morning talking about hillary clinton and says "though hillary clinton has stood at the center of feminist debates for more than two decades, she has at times been an imperfect messenger for the cause. that has never been more apparent than now as her old missteps and her husband's history have effectively paralyzed her during a moment of widespread outrage." in other words, they're saying she does not have the credence or the clout to counter some of what donald trump is saying and to attack him when it comes to how he views women. what do you say to that? >> well, that's absolutely true. to people who don't support her, her track record of handling these situations is questionable. but even more important than that, the women vote is a very diverse voting bloc. it's nowhere near as monolithic as people talk about. so the reality is different women see different issues differently, and therefore respond and vote accordingly. not every woman would look at how donald trump and how he has responded to the situation and find it problematic. and that's what we're seeing the polls suggest. >> and this poll in the "washington post" too shows 68%, rather, 68% of women polled do think that donald trump made unwanted sexual advances. but again, it does not seem to be taking a hit in his overall numbers. we appreciate it so much, eugene scott. thanks for being with us. >> thanks, christi. >> let's remember, this poll was taken between the 10th and the 13th, after the release of the video but before we started to see this pileup of accusers. and now there's more potential fallout for donald trump. another woman has come forward. she is the ninth accuser. but the question is are these allegations going to hurt him at the polls? we'll dig deeper into these numbers in just a moment. and wikileaks releasing new hacked e-mails apparently from the clinton campaign. this time talking about her wall street speeches. with toothpaste or plain water. and even though their dentures look clean, in reality they're not. if a denture were to be put under more at tiaa.org well, the sexual assault scandal surrounding donald trump still has wheels in motion here. a ninth woman has come forward now accusing the republican candidate of grabbing and then kissing her without her permission. she says this was an incident that happened nearly 20 years ago. here's our jessica schneider. >> reporter: victor and christi, 63-year-old cathy heller is now the ninth woman to speak out, claiming that donald trump kissed her without consent in the middle of a mar-a-lago brunch in the late 1990s. cathy heller first shared her story with the "guardian" newspaper. and cnn is working to further corroborate her story. but i did speak with cathy heller on the phone as well as her friend susan klein, who she shared her story with a year and a half ago, when donald trump was rising in political prominence. now, heller tells me she was at mar-a-lago on mother's day with her extended family since her in-laws were members of that private club. heller says when she was introduced to trump he allegedly pulled her toward him and then kissed her. heller says she was startled and pulled back. she tells me her husband saw it happen as did other members of her family and they just considered it a family joke. but she says once that "access hollywood" tape came out it became a real issue in this presidential campaign. she realized it was no longer a laughing matter. and cathy heller says she became compelled to speak out along with those eight other women. now, the trump campaign vigorously denying all of these allegations. the trump team issuing the latest statement about cathy heller's claims, saying this, saying "the media has gone too far in making this false accusation. there is no way something like this would have happened in a public place on mother's day at mr. trump's resort. it would have been the talk of palm beach for the past two decades. the reality is this. for the media to wheel out a politically motivated democratic activist with a legal dispute against the same resort owned by mr. trump does a disservice to the public, and anyone covering this story should be embarrassed for elevating this bogus claim." now, i did talk to cathy heller. she admits that she is a hillary supporter and she also says that she did have a legal dispute with mar-a-lago. but still, she became compelled to speak out. victor and christi in. >> jessica, thank you so much. now, with only a few weeks until election day a new "washington post"/abc news poll shows trump is just four points behind hillary clinton, virtually nothing. or at least very little has changed. most voters say the leaked video of trump bragging about groping women does not affect their vote. here are the numbers. clinton ahead of trump 47 to 43 among likely voters. compare that to the same poll conducted in july, when clinton was up eight points. let's discuss now with scott folden, former chairman of the washington, d.c. democratic party, hillary clinton supporter. also stacy washington, a republican talk show host and donald trump supporter. good morning to both of you. >> good morning, victor. >> so let me start here. we talked about the poll in late july from abc news and the "washington post." let's go to the one right before the convention. this morning the numbers are 47-43 clinton. before the conventions began 47-43 clinton. the same in this poll. now, we know that fox has clinton up seven. nbc news and the "wall street journal" have her up nine. so we'll find out if this is a trend or an outlier. let's put up on the screen what's happened since july. there have been so many events. they've got two conventions, two debates. we have the wikileaks that targeted the dnc and targeted hillary clinton. the video of clinton stumbling into that van. we have the allegation that's have come out, the "access hollywood," and still the numbers are the same. let me find you from you, scott, first. for all the people saying this is hofer, this is evidence it's just as tight as it has ever been. >> well, we've always said, the clinton campaign has always said that the polls are going to fluctuate. so whether it's over or not, i think when we talk about it being over, the political pundits, we're looking at the real polls in the battleground states and the polling about women supporters. trum can't win without women suburban educated voters and he's not winning that. she's up by 20 points. he's battling her in ohio. but in the other battleground states she's well ahead by either five to ten points on average. they're fighting it out in florida. but the other key piece on the polling is that she's up and making him work and defend and fight in red states now on a competitive basis like georgia. so we know the national polls are going to fluctuate but it's all about the road to 270 and he can't get there. >> yeah, stacy, we have here at cnn reported extensively about how that path is narrowing when you go through florida, pennsylvania, through ohio, north carolina as well. what do you think this sends, the message it sends potentially to speaker paul ryan, who saw some backlash maybe he didn't expect a couple of days ago and many of those members of congress who've walked away and we've seen some return to the trump campaign. >> yeah. i think it's so interesting that you brought up paul ryan in light of the fact that he himself was primaried by a very interesting person paul nailon and it didn't go anymore but it was a statement from his own voters in his own state of how dissatisfied they were with his performance on behalf of washington. and now we have him basically turning tail and running at the first sign of trouble with donald trump. it's been an interesting campaign season, and i think after the presidential election is when paul ryan is going to really meet up with the reality of his actions during this campaign. i honestly can't believe he would take this time out to talk about his feelings on an issue that hasn't been substantiated instead of supporting the nominee, which is what we did when he was running with mitt romney. >> so i know that there are some people who are watching and take issue with your characterization that this is the first sign of trouble with donald trump considering some of the statements he made during the primary. but let me get to paul ryan because do we have the sound of donald trump talking about the rigged election? do we have that ready? let's listen to it. >> the election is being rigged by corrupt media pushing false allegations and outright lies in an effort to elect hillary clinton president. but we are going to stop it. we are not going to back down. >> now, we have this statement out from a spokeswoman for paul ryan's office. "our democracy relies on confidence in election results and the speaker is fully confident the states will carry out this election with integrity. i know you, stacy, have some issues with the speaker. but this is what you'd expect someone in his position to do because there is no evidence that this election is rigged. right? >> actually, we have the video that just came out last week with the democratic leader in new york city of the election commission admitting on a live camera, a hidden camera, that voters are bused around certain precincts to vote multiple times and that he even is concerned about the integrity of his vote being diluted by people who are voting multiple times. you have the college student -- >> so you believe the election is rigged? >> no, i don't believe it's rigged. but i think there's a concern about election fraud. and i don't think it's being covered adequately in the media. >> all right. scott, you say to that what? >> i say to that that the idea the system is rigged is ridiculous because the states run the voting process in every state and you would have a vast right-wing -- right-wing or left-wing conspiracy in order to say it's a massive rigging. and so that's really ridiculous. with speaker ryan i don't think he has much choice because donald trump is threatening to undermine the integrity of the whole election process that is the core piece of law and order and how we have transitioned to power in this country. so he's got to come out and say that because it's true. we know every report and every document or research that's done on voter fraud that it's minimal state to state. that these whole ideas of voter fraud have really escalated to unreasonable levels. so that's my response. the bottom line is this. every vote counts. we've got systems to defend against the russians trying to hack into those voter systems. we haven't been able to fight them with the wikileaks piece. and donald trump ought to be denouncing that as well as supporting the integrity of the voting process. this is still america and he's being very un-american when he says -- >> that's absolutely an unfounded statement. he's not being un-american. there's nothing un-american talking about voter fraud and things -- >> he's not. he's talking -- >> there's a difference between talking about specific cases of voter fraud and we know that that is on a very small scale, and saying that there is a grand conspiracy that this system and this election is already rigged. but we've got more time to talk about that. we do want to include a lighter moment. try to give some balance here. if you weren't up and because you're watching television at this hour maybe you didn't see it.
