Government departments in India have differed from the Central Vigilance Commissions advice to punish corrupt officials in 27 cases, according to an official report. The Ministry of Railways had the highest number of instances, with seven cases of non-compliance. The report also highlighted instances where major penalties advised by the Commission were reduced to minor penalties by disciplinary authorities.

The stamps & registration department has collected Rs 6522 crore as of August 21 this fiscal year compared to Rs 6142 crore during the same period last year. The Finance department has factored in an increase in guidance value while fixing the revenue target this year. Karnataka introduced the guidance value system in the 1990s to plug leaks in stamp duties through under reporting of the value of transactions.

Former Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) Suresh N Patel has been appointed the chairman of an advisory board to examine the role of top bank officials in fraud cases. The tenure of the chairman and members would be for a period of two years with effect from August 21, 2023, said the order issued by the Central Vigilance Commission.

Over 6,800 corruption cases investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are pending trials in courts, with 313 of them pending for over two decades, according to an annual report by the Central Vigilance Commission. Of the cases pending, over 2,000 have been awaiting trial for over a decade, and around 690 cases are still under investigation.
