Goa's second international airport at Mopa will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. This will be the second airport in Goa, the first one being located at Dabolim.

The airport will have the capacity to handle 44 lakh passengers per annum in the first phase

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the first phase of the Mopa greenfield international airport in Goa even as he targeted previous governments for adopting a “vote bank approach” instead of creating public amenities.

The newly-inaugurated Mopa International Airport in Goa has been named after former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

With the aim of boosting air connectivity and tourism in the coastal state, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Mopa International Airport in Goa on Sunday.

Mopa is a village in Pernem in North Goa and the airport is about 35km (an hour’s drive) from Panjim, and approximately 100km (two-and-a-half-hour drive) from South Goa

The GoFirst flights from Goas Mopa International Airport will connect the city with Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad in the current network plan, reports PTI.

The airport can currently handle 8.5 MPPA of passengers (million passengers per annum). The total passenger handling capacity will rise to about 13 MPPA with the opening of Mopa airport.
