A series of advertisements, created by Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide Inc. to promote a healthy cooking oil, has been halted after the cricket icon endorsing the product suffered a heart attack.
Adani Wilmar Ltd., controlled by billionaire Gautam Adani, has pulled the plug on its rice-bran oil campaigns featuring Sourav Ganguly, former captain of the Indian cricket team, after some social media users trolled the oil brand over his ill-health. Ganguly, 48, underwent a coronary angioplasty on Saturday and is recovering now.
“We have only taken a temporary break in our TV commercial till we again sit with Sourav and take things forward,” Angshu Mallick, Adani Wilmar’s deputy chief executive officer, said in an email Wednesday, adding that Ganguly will continue being their brand ambassador. “This is a very unfortunate incident and can happen with anyone.”

The cricketing fraternity poured in their wishes for a speedy recovery after Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president and former India captain Sourav Ganguly underwent a primary angioplasty in Kolkata after suffering chest discomfort while doing tread mill at his home gym . India captain Virat Kohli led the wishes for Ganguly. Praying for your speedy recovery. Get well soon, Kohli tweeted, tagging the BCCI chief.
Ganguly was rushed to the hospital Saturday afternoon following a complaint of chest pain. He had an acute myocardial infarction (MI). We have found three blocks in his heart. We have conducted a primary angioplasty on him and one stent has been inserted. He is awake and absolutely stable, Mondal said. He suffered a myocardial infarction while doing the treadmill this morning. He had a similar experience Friday also. He was rushed to the hospital immediately and that helped us a lot in treating him, the doctor said.
An MI, commonly known as a heart attack, occurs when blood flow decreases or stops to a part of the heart, causing damage to the heart muscle.
