BANGOR -- A non-profit is launching a fundraising campaign in an effort to keep Bangors Dakin Pool open for the summer season.

The pool closed for part of the season last summer because of a shortage of lifeguards, but hopes to resume normal operations this year.

Pretty much after next week, your pool options are either a friend with a pool, a sprinkler, or a cold bathtub, if we feel like beating the heat.

There's still a lot of life left in the summer, and maybe they can even do something like keep it open if the weekends are warm in September.

The ice cream is free from Darlings Ice Cream Truck, but the evening is to raise money for a more complete schedule next year.

Evening Swims will be Monday to Thursdays, 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The department said due to a staffing shortage of lifeguards and supervisors it will only be able to open the Beth Pancoe Municipal Aquatic Center this summer.

Typically, it takes well over two dozen people to maintain both pools. This year, the city has a staff of 18.
