"We're told time after time not to consider any alternatives [to public school] other than more funding, and you wonder why parents are crying out for choice," one proponent said.
“I just can't any longer be elected into office and say that the only model, the only way to do education, is the way we've done it since 1889,” one lawmaker backing 'school choice' proposals said.
This week is Week of Work in South Dakota
Jarod Larson
The week of April 19th marks the Week of Work in South Dakota. The initiative is intended to introduce students to career opportunities within our communities. The project’s focus is on career exploration, with an emphasis on connecting businesses and employers to future employees. Prior to Covid-19, the Brandon Valley School District was deeply invested into the planning for a substantial paid apprenticeship and internship program in collaboration with the Brandon Valley Area Chamber of Commerce for students at BVHS.
In addition to the Week of Work, we view paid internships as a valuable work-based learning experience for some students and look forward to revitalizing the planning and implementation of paid internships when the circumstances allow. Career exploration and work-based learning experiences are valuable long-term investments for students and South Dakota.
