Water polo equipment from Europe now in Manila

Dale Evangelista, the man in charge of the program, said that the equipment came from Europe. “Of course, Mayor Isko wants the best equipment for Manila, that’s why we purchased it in Europe,” said Evangelista, a former superstar of the water polo national team. “We’re all excited with this development, we’re just waiting for its release. Once they’re ready, we’ll start to install it in different venues we identified together with the Manila Sports Council.”

The two helped the national team to a silver medal finish in the SEA Games two years ago here, but their quest of winning a gold medal in this year’s biennial meet remains a question. Almost eight months after the host country released the sports disciplines for the 2021 meet, the SEA Games organizing committee in Vietnam has yet to act on the appeal of water polo national teams in the region all hoping for the sport to be added.

Aljon Salonga injured in motorcycle accident

Published February 24, 2021, 4:38 PM Photo from Philippine Waterpolo Aljon Salonga, one of the top performers of the Philippine Water Polo Team during the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games here, suffered a dislocated right elbow after he figured in a motorcycle accident Tuesday. Salonga was alone when the accident happened in Las Pinas City, and he was immediately brought to the hospital for treatment. He had surgery to repair his elbow last Wednesday. Charlie Dy, the CEO of Virtual Playground where Salonga is a talent, said that the water polo star is recovering well after the surgery. “He is doing well after the operation. Aside from the dislocated elbow, he also suffered a cut on his left leg but both injuries were not serious and he is fine right now,” said Dy.
