Even before the Dallas Wings Community Foundation officially launched Mar. 1, the nonprofit affiliated with WNBA’s Dallas Wings was having an impact.
It partnered with the American Fidelity Foundation and OurCalling to respond to the emergency needs of those affected by February’s winter storm and subsequent power outages, raising more than $124,000 with 674 donors.

After a week of successfully raising money to help North Texans affected by the storms and power outages, the Dallas Wings has announced the launch of the Dallas Wings Community Foundation. Of course, launching its nonprofit has been in the works for a while, and team members have been working on projects and fundraising since they moved to the DFW area in 2016.
The foundation will focus “five pillars:” women and girls, social justice, youth sports, health and wellness and education. “Social justice” includes issues around sexual orientation, but that’s nothing new for the team.

The Dallas Wings Community Foundation, in partnership with the American Fidelity Foundation and OurCalling, has raised more than $100,000 for those affected by the winter storms that struck Texas last week.
The organizations had initially hoped to bring in $12,000 with the 72-hour campaign, but as of Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 23, the campaign had brought in$107,534 in donations from around the world and the WNBA, helping those in need and raising awareness.
“The Dallas Wings Community Foundation is dedicated to responding to the needs of our community with a goal to improve the quality of life for our neighbors in need,” said Dallas Wings Foundation Executive Director LaDondra Wilson. “We understand that the needs are plentiful and will continue beyond the recent weather conditions, and we are committed to answering the call of service throughout the DFW region.”
