Readers respond: Church returns PPP money
Updated Dec 22, 2020;
At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the leadership of Damascus Community Church made a commitment to care for our employees and honor contracts, uncertain of the impact we would experience in terms of school enrollment and congregational giving. As a measure of protection for our employees, we made the decision to apply for the offered government PPP loan, and we did receive money. However, in spite of the challenges faced by so many during these difficult times, God blessed our church and school. Damascus Christian School was able to successfully shift to a hybrid of in-person and online programs and continues to operate with little decrease in enrollment, and the church congregation has been faithful in financially supporting the church. It was clear that the money was not needed for its intended purpose because of the faithful provision of God, so it was returned in full.
