On Wednesday (Aug. 3), the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame formally inducted its 16 newest members in a long-awaited event to recognize the CHRHF classes named in 2020 and 2021.

There was little movement in the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll, with the top five horses holding their positions and Alrajah One IT the only newcomer.

Canadian-owned Bulldog Hanover solidified his hold on No. 1 in the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll thanks to his record-setting 1:45.4 mile to win the William R. Haughton Memorial at The Meadowlands this past Saturday. The four-year-old male pacer received all but one first-place vote and was one point shy of a perfect 350 points.

Live video from The Meadowlands is available for what the track has labelled "The Greatest Night in Harness Racing" on July 16, with more than $2.5 million in purses up for grabs and the $600,000 2022 Meadowlands Pace as the main event.

A dozen years ago, Chuck Pompey, Howard Taylor and Edwin Gold partnered as owners for the first time, purchasing a female pacer named Economy Terror. After an award-winning career on the track, she became a broodmare for the trio, and on Saturday, the group will send out one of her sons, Market Based, in the $600,000 Meadowlands Pace for three-year-olds at Meadowlands Racetrack.

A new week, a new No. 1 in the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll. Bulldog Hanover grabbed the top spot in this week’s rankings, becoming the fourth different horse to ascend to No. 1 in the poll’s six weeks.

For the third time in four weeks, the No. 1 spot changed hands in the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll. And for the second time in the poll’s overall five weeks, the two top horses were separated by fewer than five points.

With apologies to John Fogarty, when Proud Mary makes her career debut in Friday’s $165,755 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes at The Meadows, trainer Chris Ryder hopes she’ll be rollin’, rollin’, rollin’ on to victory.

A total of nearly 30 Hambletonian or Hambletonian Oaks hopefuls will be in action Saturday (July 9) at Vernon Downs when the upstate New York oval hosts Dr. Harry M. Zweig Memorial stakes for three-year-old male and three-year-old female trotters.
