Monday April 12th, 2021 8:00am (Photo by Rachel Pincus/Notre Dame Athletics) As the NCAA winter sports seasons wrap up, lacrosse has the opportunity to step into the limelight. What’s happened is less important than what’s next. Monmouth and Bryant are the current favorites to win their league titles, but the margin of success and failure are extremely tight in 2021. LIU (4-1 NEC) and Saint Joseph’s (5-0 NEC) still have to play the Bulldogs (3-1) in the NEC. Monmouth is scheduled to play ...

Monday March 15th, 2021 8:00am We are living with postponements and programs in pause. We witnessed monster goal-scoring runs this week. We were treated to a more robust slate of Sunday games because of on-campus social distancing and facility availability. I think that’s a longterm positive. Why stack all the games on Saturday? The game grows when teams play on Thursday night, Friday night and Sunday afternoon. Everybody can’t play Saturday at the same time. Maryland, North Carolina and ...

Every weekend during the college lacrosse season, US Lacrosse Magazine staff will riff here on the juiciest matchups, trendiest topics, biggest storylines and hottest takes. Monday March 8th, 2021 8:45am (Inside Lacrosse Photo: James Beaver) It was a weekend of little change. Loyola, Ohio State and Richmond were the only Top 20 teams to meet defeat. We have a lot to look forward to this week, and many of the best games are on television. Wednesday High Point is at Duke. Thursday Night Lacrosse debuts on the ACC Network with Virginia and North Carolina. On Saturday, Hopkins hosts Penn State, then Rutgers and Maryland play for first place in the Big Ten. Sunday, fans...

Welcome to March. There’s no turning back now. Blowout Saturday featured a ton of one-sided affairs. We witnessed some Week Two results that didn’t correlate to Week One performance. Teams improve a great deal after their initial outing. March is about improvement. Strive to get better this week as a team, as a unit and as an individual. Same-day bus rides and empty bleachers conspire to snuff your spark. The fire burns from within, take a moment to connect with your why. Early in the yea...

Mon Mar 1 2021 | Patrick Stevens | College PHOTO BY JOHN STROHSACKER Blowouts were the name of the game this weekend in Division I. There were 11 games over Friday and Saturday involving at least one team in the top 15 of last week’s Nike/US Lacrosse Division I Top 20. The average margin of victory? 11.64 goals. The closest of the bunch? Maryland’s 13-7 triumph at Penn State on Friday in a game the Terrapins had firm control of by the end of the third quarter. There were romps on the road...

Monday February 8th, 2021 8:30am We rejoice in the return to play. The healing characteristics of lacrosse — the physical and mental health benefits for the participants, coaches, families and fans. 2021 will be a week-to-week endeavor. Expect stops and starts, a bumpy road, unpredictable and imperfect. Celebrate your negative tests. Weve seen at least three programs (UMass, Johns Hopkins and Michigan) affected because of campus spreads of the virus. Set a good example. Be the great citizen...
