An injured hiker was rescued from a remote area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park by a Tennessee Army National Guard medical flight crew Thursday evening according to a release from the Tennessee Military Department.

According to a release, the flight crew rescued the hiker on the evening of July 27.

A medical flight crew from the Tennessee National Guard conducted an emergency air evacuation of a hiker suffering chest pains along the Appalachian Trail, Sept. 20.

On Tuesday at around 12:30 p.m. emergency crews learned about a 56-year-old hiker who was suffering "cardiac distress" at the Derrick Knob Shelter.

The hiker was carried down the Alum Cave Trail to a point where the helicopter could pick up and transport the person to UT Medical Center.
