Charges: Woman said God told her to abandon child on North Shore highway

A woman allegedly told deputies that God directed her to abandon her barefoot 6-year-old daughter along Minnesota Highway 61 near Grand Portage last week.
Jaydin Danielle Pankow, 39, of Waupaca, Wisconsin, appeared Monday in State District Court on a felony count of neglect or endangerment of a child.
Pankow was arrested after two good Samaritans found the child on the side of the highway around 10 p.m. Thursday. A criminal complaint states that the girl was wearing tights and a jacket, but lacked any footwear or other cold-weather clothing in the near-freezing temperature.

This past Thursday night, Cook County Sheriff s deputies responded to Highway 61 near Grand Portage, Minnesota about an abandoned 6 year old girl. Reports are she wasn t properly clothed for cold weather and was not wearing shoes or socks.
Luckily for this little girl, two men spotted the girl and took care of her until authorities arrived. The child is now in the care of Cook County Health and Public Services.

Grand Portage, MN (KROC-AM News) - Authorities in northeastern Minnesota say charges are pending against the mother of a young child who was found abandoned along a highway Thursday night.
A news release issued by the Cook County Sheriff s Office says two men came upon the 6-year-old girl on the side of Highway 61 in the Grand Portage area. The girl was not wearing shoes or socks and lacked proper winter clothing. The responding deputies found Daniel Deschampe and Delwin Wilson with the child and taking steps to keep her warm.
