Fairfield teen shot Easter Sunday dies after 2 weeks in hospital
FAIRFIELD A Vanden High student-athlete who was shot Easter Sunday has died, authorities and family members of the teen reported.
Daniel D. Hughes, 17, a junior at Vanden High, died Sunday and becomes the city’s second reported homicide victim of the year.
His death prompted police and prosecutors to re-evaluate charges that had previously been filed against the suspected gunman.
An 18-year-old charged with the shooting is scheduled to return to court May 28 for a readiness conference and to set dates for a preliminary hearing.
Vanden High student succumbs to gunshot wounds
FAIRFIELD The Police Department reported Tuesday that Daniel D. Hughes, 17, of Fairfield, has died from gunshot wounds sustained April 4.
“Our thoughts are with Daniel’s family and the community as we mourn his loss,” the Police Department said in a statement.
The department now considers the incident a homicide investigation “and is working with the Solano County District Attorney’s Office on the appropriate charges.”
Police report that Hughes died Sunday. There were no other details released.
Hughes was one of three individuals in a car driving on the 1000 block of Broadway Street when a gun went off about 4:30 p.m. Easter Sunday, the police reported at the time.
