Daqinghe River News Today

The worst flood that hit the Haihe River Basin in North China since 1963 has exposed weaknesses in monitoring and forecasting capabilities for floods, said China’s Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) on Monday. From July 28 to August 1, some 22 rivers in the basin experienced above-warning level flooding, and eight rivers reported the largest floods ever recorded, said MWR officials at a news conference. The disaster has caused 61 deaths, and millions of people were impacted.

Members of a post-disaster reconstruction working group recently walked into the flooded Xinle village, located in Wuchang city of Northeast Chinas Heilongjiang Province, to investigate and identify flood-hit houses. According to estimates, review of all the homes in 24 townships will complete in three to four days.

China raised its flood-control emergency response in the countrys northeastern regions to Level III on Sunday morning following severe rainstorms and flooding in North Chinas Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Northeast Chinas Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces, as torrential rain caused by the remnants of Typhoon Doksuri cost six lives in Jilins Shulan city and inundated large swaths of grain fields.
