By MELINDA WILLIAMS melinda@southwesttimes.com Six months after making 35 mph the maximum speed in town, Pulaski Town Council did an about face Tuesday, voting to increase the speed limit between LewisGale Hospital-Pulaski and Morehead Lane. The speed limit will now be 45 mph on both sides of Route 11 as one enters and exits the town.

By noon it was two-way. “The decision to make Pulaski's one-way streets two-way was made with the goal of opening up additional opportunities for business growth in our downtown,” said Darlene Burcham, town manager. “Take time in your travels on 3rd Street to see the possibilities for future investment in this part of our community.”
Scientists predict that flooding events will become more common, due to climate change, and communities in Appalachia are particularly vulnerable. The small town of Pulaski, in the New River Valley, is responding, by creating a plan to withstand the worst impacts of flooding.
