Weve looked at the long struggle for what historian Hasan Jeffries called freedom rights, right . Weve been looking at this quest for economic, social, and political selfdetermination, for educational access and equity. And were looking at this long quest for the full realization of freedom and citizenship. And so were getting to the point in the semester where were talking about the Civil Rights Movement. Weve been looking at that for a couple of sessions now. And the interesting thing about teaching the Civil Rights Movement is that its perhaps the era that most americans think they know the most about, right . Weve talked a little bit about this, and well talk more about this. Just because folks think that they can quote a few sentences from Martin Luther kings speech in washington or know a little bit about rosa parks civil d
Statements but that still kills almost 10,000 people every year on our hoiighways. Now were becoming xhoee ining concerned it highlights the use of marijuana use. Among the more egregious drug involved accidents are a Recreational Boating accident in florida that killed five. A day caravan driver in memphis, tennessee, who was high and crashed causing five deaths. And a railroad next chase, maryland, that killed 16 thats already been referred to. But why dont have a good idea of the number of drug related transportation fatalities. Were not surprised about the growing evidence of drug use by drivers, pilots and others, however, given that as weve heard, many states have authorized medical marijuana programs and two states have decriminalized Recreational Use of the drug. In addition, recent news reports noted pressure to decriminalize marijuana at the federal level as well. Perhaps most disturbing as weve heard mentioned in the Opening Statements is evidence that marijuana use among te
