Fayetteville State University students laud the expanded opportunities, and FSU said it is seeing higher retention and graduation rates.

"Im absolutely proud of you," Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said Friday during a visit with Fayetteville State Universitys ROTC cadets.

The four-star general, who retired from Fort Bragg in July, has stepped into a new role at Fayettevilles historically Black university.

The grant will also help 30 local small businesses and create 60 paid internships for students. Heres the plan.
