FEMA wraps up its work at Memphis vaccination site

FEMA prepares to end its work at Memphis COVID vaccination site FEMA and military personnel will work one last day at the Pipkin vaccination site on Wednesday after six weeks of being there Author: Jalyn Souchek Updated: 6:36 AM CDT May 19, 2021 MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The FEMA setup at the Pipkin building COVID vaccination never reached its high expectations but representatives look at the last six weeks as a success. FEMA and military personnel have been working the Pipkin site since early April. On Wednesday, they'll work one last day before pulling out of the site. Their presence meant the capacity to deliver more vaccines was much higher. The site had the capabilities to administer 3,000 shots a day, 21,000 a week, but never reach those numbers. Some days there were only a few hundred shots given out.

(WMC) - Shelby County health leaders still don’t know if the higher than usual COVID-19 case numbers we’re seeing are a fourth wave or temporary. As daily case averages climb, vaccinations continue. Plus, there are thousands of dollars of gift cards being given away. While tailgaters were finally back at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium for Friday’s game, vaccinations were also taking place at the game. “It’s been steady. So it’s promising,” Tiffany Collins with the City of Memphis said.
