The contentious Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2023 were taken up in the Lok Sabha today.

Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and his party colleagues Manish Tewari and Shashi Tharoor said the issue of Right to Privacy was involved and the government should not rush with the bill.

The Puttaswamy case judgment was a landmark verdict in 2017 that established Right to Privacy as a fundamental right under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.

The bill was introduced in Parliament on Thursday.

This is the governments second attempt at introducing the privacy bill after an earlier version, called the Personal Data Protection bill, was withdrawn last August.
