KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government has handed over 177 land titles covering about 2,000ha to federal agencies in the state for the building of infrastructure.
The land totalling 1,933.09ha is for the construction of schools, hospitals, police stations, fire stations and other necessary facilities and amenities, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor in a statement on Thursday (Feb 18).
Out of the total 177 titles, 90 are for the Education Ministry, 42 for the Health Ministry, 28 for the Transport Ministry and 17 for other ministries.
State Land and Survey Department director Bernard Liew said all quit rent and land premium for the 177 titles had been fully settled by the Federal Land Commissioner to the state government.

PAPAR: The State Immigration Department (JIM) took over the management of the State Temporary Detention Centre (PTS) from the National Security Council (NSC) Sabah effective Friday (Jan. 1).
NSC Sabah Director, Sh Sitti Saleha Habib Yussof (pic), said the handover was in line with the Immigration Department as the manager at PTS in terms of legal aspects and obligation in line with the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amendment 2002), which is the law on the management of detainees as well as enable the institution operate legally under the Act.
“The handing-over of the PTS management to JIM is a strategic decision as the department is an experienced agency and has the best mechanism in coordinating the management of detainees (immigration offenders) in detention centres,” she said.
